I work out 6 days a week and want to start drinking a protein shake right after my workouts, but I’m a college student and un-employed so wanted to see if there were other ways of making a protein shake without purchasing the protein powder. I was thinking instead of a shake… a piece of chicken? I would prefer a nice cold shake though after a hard work-out.

YES, YOU CAN MAKE PROTEIN SHAKES WITHOUT USING PROTEIN POWDER, PROBLEM IS, IT WOULD COST MORE THAN THE PROTEIN POWDER.
COSTCO HAS A HUGE 5LB BAG FOR $25. CHEAP AND NOT HORRIBLE TASTING.
you can use protien such as white beans(from can rinse first) also you can use tofu chunks I would start with a little maybe 1 oz then your 8 oz shake can taste like the fruits/veges you put in it. you can also use some peanut/nut butter but because of the oil content you may want to mix that in a milk base rather than juice. check highproteinfoods.net for more ideas
use low fat frozen yogurt, berries, and peanut butter. Check out menshealth.com for more info.
oatmeal
Use bananas!
Instead of protein powder use powdered dry milk or add a raw egg (pasturized if you are concerned about salmonella) to your smoothie. Much healthier, more vitamins and no corn syrup.
Here’s the one my dad taught me.. we call it Tigers Milk.
1 banana (fresh or frozen and thawed.. doesnt matter)
1 egg (theres your protein)
a spoonful of honey for naural sweetening without extra sugar
about a cup of milk so its not too thick
sprinkle of cinnamon
You can add other fruits if you like to change the flavour. Otherwise just stick it all in the blender and blend until smooth. Excellent flavour and chock full of energy
Protein shakes aren’t that expensive and they last a long time. But eat an egg, raisins, or broccoli and drink lots of water. These are healthy alternatives. Oh and I just googled something for you about protein smoothies.http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/proteins…
try that
