It allows you to continue for longer, and allows for the acid buildup on your muscles to diminish so it wont hurt as much. Also it facilitates muscle development by minimizing damage to the cells from this acid.

The answer is not very complicated. Should you do too much at once, only muscle damage will occur (and other bad things). By breaking your workout into sets, you allow your body to recover from the work, and replenish needed supplies in the blood stream and brain. The body sees it is doing work, so after you quit your set it prepares itself for another. Through regular workouts, your body then builds up your muscles and system to “expect” this work, hence making you bigger. If you don’t do sets, you will damage your body. And it can be bad damage, depending on the stress undertaken :( . Do your sets.

spitting? How about spLitting. Its so you can do a greater total number of reps, you get muscles almost to the exhaustion point but let em rest and then repeat a couple of times.

you wouldn’t want to do 10 reps and call it a day?
you want to train your muscles further by doing sets of 10s
